New paddles, tournament prep, and... pickleball ankle?
Gear questions answered, tournament tips shared, and a new paddle on the way
There’s nothing like the thrill of a new paddle on the way — highly recommend. (Keep scrolling to see what I got.)
While I wait for the delivery guy, here are a few things we’ve been talking about. And if you opened last week’s newsletter looking for drop shot tips… that was our bad. You’ll find them below.
Let’s get into it.

TIPS & TRICKS
Hold Up! Are You Using the Right Grip?
Continental, Eastern, Western… no, this isn’t a geography quiz. If you’ve ever wondered whether you’re holding your paddle the right way, we’ve got you. From all-around favorites to spin-happy setups, here’s how to find the grip that works best for your style.
💡 Why It Matters: The right grip can make your shots feel smoother, more controlled, and — dare we say — more strategic.
GEAR
Still Wearing Running Shoes? We Need to Talk.
You’ve got the paddle, the outfit, and maybe even a headband that means business. But if you’re sliding around in running shoes, you’re one awkward step away from pickleball ankle — and trust us, it’s as painful as it sounds. Here’s why pickleball-specific court shoes matter, and how they can help you play better, stay comfortable, and avoid injury.
💡 Why It Matters: Your ankles, knees, and dignity will all thank you.
TRAVEL

Signing up for a tournament is fun — until you realize how much there is to prep. From what to pack to what to expect (hint: lots of waiting around), here’s a no-nonsense guide to making your next tournament trip way less stressful. Bonus: all that waiting usually comes with a solid tan.
💡 Why It Matters: Tournament days are long, hot, and unpredictable. A little prep goes a long way — and you’ll come home with stories and a glow.

Art on the Court
Bold lines, bright colors, and pure energy — Volair’s collab with the Keith Haring Foundation brings iconic art to the pickleball court. Haring’s work has always been about movement, connection, and accessibility, so it just fits. The collection includes paddles, bags, covers, and tees. As soon as I found out about these, I had to get my hands on one — it’s on the way!

We’re curious — are you all about rec games, do you dabble in tournaments, or do you take every opportunity to travel and play? |
