Your serve might need a little TLC
Crusty socks, smarter serves, and hydration habits -- we've got everything but the electrolyte packet.
Looks like a lot of you still need to drag your families out for some pickleball—54% of poll voters said the kids aren’t playing with them yet. For the ones who did get a Mother’s Day match in… hope you got the dub.
I got pulled onto the golf course over the weekend (not mad about it), but let’s be real—when the weather’s good, we all know where we should be. We’re a couple weeks past the US Open, the weather’s heating up, and I’m finally brushing off the winter rust. Might need to queue up a few YouTube refreshers before I embarrass myself at open play.
Also—since it’s Mental Health Awareness Month, a quick reminder: a good rally can do a lot for your brain. Sometimes the best reset is just getting out there.

TIPS & TRICKS
Let It Rip (But With Control)
Most players try to muscle the ball when they want more power. That’s not it. A strong serve comes from timing, body mechanics, and a loose wrist — plus a little topspin if you really want it to bite. This guide breaks down:
What actually creates power (hint: it’s not just your arms)
How to layer in spin without losing control
The easiest drill to sharpen all three at once.
Don’t just hit hard. Serve smart.
💡 Why It Matters: A faster serve with added spin makes returns harder and points shorter.
HEALTH & WELLNESS
Hydrate, Don’t Hibernate
Half your body weight in ounces. That’s your baseline for water—then tack on another 12 to 24 ounces for every hour you spend sweating on court. Add electrolytes, not just ice. Layer in rest breaks, cooling towels, and breathable gear before your legs start cramping and your serve drops off. Heat doesn’t have to ruin your game, but it will if you’re not prepared.
💡 Why It Matters: Dehydration kills performance faster than any missed dink.
COMMUNITY
Coach, Competitor, YouTube Star
If you’ve ever searched for a pickleball drill, you’ve probably landed on PicklePong Deb. With 200+ YouTube tutorials, decades of coaching experience, and more than 120 medals to her name, Deb Harrison is the real deal. She’s teaching players how to move better, think smarter, and play with purpose—whether they’re brand new or aiming for gold.
💡 Why It Matters: Trusted instruction matters more than flashy gear or hot takes.

UK Champ Thought Pickleball Was a Joke 🇬🇧 Now he’s all in. Former tennis coach Richard Love quit his job to play and coach full-time after winning gold at the English Nationals.
KD's Pickleball Team Just Got Traded 🏙️ Kevin Durant’s MLP franchise is now based in D.C. after a rare team ownership swap with Brooklyn—yep, like a player trade but with team owners.
High School Converts Tennis Courts for Pickleball 🏫 St. Pete High’s student-led club just got six dedicated courts—and 50 members—thanks to a visual arts teacher who also plays pro.
Where Women’s Sports Take Up Space
Feisty Media is building a world where women athletes and active communities aren’t sidelined. They spotlight the stories, people, and progress shaping the future—from grassroots to pro-level. It’s smart, unfiltered, and long overdue.
They run podcasts, newsletters, live events, and online communities—all built to inform, connect, and celebrate active women.

A Protein Bar You Might Actually Crave
I’ve been hearing buzz about these plant-based chocolate squares that are supposed to curb cravings without the crash. They’re packed with 6g of plant protein and 4g of fiber, making them a smart snack choice. Flavors like Cookie Dough and Peanut Butta are getting rave reviews for their taste and texture. One reviewer even said, “It tastes like you’re eating cookie dough with chocolate frosting on it.”
They do need to be kept refrigerated, but fans say it’s worth it for the quality ingredients and satisfying taste. I’m intrigued and might just have to try them out.
This Week on Keeping It Real with Gina & Neil
Last week, we dropped the intro. Now, the real talk begins. Keeping It Real with Gina & Neil is a no-fluff podcast about the drama, burnout, and joy behind the game — bringing it back to why we actually love playing.
In Episode 1, they’re digging through their pickleball bags (and calling out what they forgot). Tri-blend tee? Check. Crusty sock? Unfortunately, also check.
